What happened to the summer?

The last few months have been such fun but, alas, so fleeting.  We started off with a wonderful trip to N.Y. to see family over Memorial Day weekend.  Little A. had seen her aunts and uncles over video Skype so meeting them was not stressful for her, which was such a relief.  We toured the city a little bit, visited, ate and played.  It was of course sad that our trip was so short but hopefully we can make up for this on future trips.

Taking a break in Prospect Park

The Statue of Liberty from Staten Island Ferry

            Barbecue with family and friends

Lovely little place to visit, wished we lived here..................

After our trip, we had our readoption day, complete with judge, dear friends, balloons, and a stuffed animal of Little A's choosing.  It was a great day and we will remember it forever.  A. took that big cluster of balloons and had a blast with them!

Later in the summer we had Uncle Robert for a visit.  He cooked for us and was the main planner of A's 6th birthday party!  We were so glad to have him come for a visit and were broken hearted to see him go.

                          Some Birthday Sugar!!!!!

We did our best to stay cool during the hot summer. We played in the back yard......

We swam in Fiona and Andy's pool
We played indoors as much as possible on the 100+ degree days.....

And we braved the heat to feed the dolphins at Sea World San Antonio

We learned that big dogs are just as friendly as our little dogs

and we planted a little garden with our favorites.........

We learned about parades and the free candy.....

                      We joined frequent flyer programs.....

                       .... had tea parties galore.......

And the first day of kindergarten was scary, but now we love it!

We have our mad scientist hair days.......

And hopefully more days where mommy has time to fix it right.....

Some days we are sad (or pretending to be)....

But most days are very colorful and happy, especially when A. can reach the candy stash herself.  Overall it was the best summer of my life, even with the heat.  We are settling in to the cooler temperatures (mid 80's is cooler) and we have Halloween, the upcoming holidays and more trips to look forward to.  This is my favorite time of year so I hope A. and I can venture out in it.  So far she has learned many important things, such as how to blow bubbles with bubblegum, how to swim (almost there), jump rope (needs more practice) and how to tie her shoes.  We are working on telling time and with that, how to practice patience!  I hope to have more pictures to share soon!

Andrea I was just thinking of you and little A today so came here and loved your update post. She is adorable and is growing and learning so fast. I know exactly what that is like. We are working on patience and listening in this house.
Having fun with family is one of the best things. It sounds like Little A has really taken to your family and it is so amazing to think that not that long ago she lived in an orphanage and now she is surrounded by family that really loves her.
I agree this has been the best summer of our lives!!
